The Classical Sounds Orchestra and Canticum Novum Choir invite music lovers of all ages to two unforgettable concerts at the Helderberg Dutch Reformed Church in Somerset West — on Saturday, 25 October at 11:00 and Sunday, 26 October at 16:00.

Under the direction of Yolanda Botha, this year’s programme features a delightful mix of well-loved classics, including Nessun Dorma, The Prayer, Barcelona, Harp and Flute works, and many more favourites spanning three centuries of timeless music.

Young audience members are warmly invited to join the fun — bring along a small percussive instrument and perform in the grand finale! Budding dancers who wish to appear on stage in Swan Lake and Waltz of the Flowers can attend practice sessions on Friday, 17 October at 15:00 and Friday, 24 October at 15:00, also at the Helderberg Dutch Reformed Church.

Admission is free, and all are welcome to come and experience a celebration of music, community, and creativity.

Classical Sounds once again brings you a set of free concerts in October, filled with some of the most beloved classical hits spanning over three centuries. Audiences will be transported into the beauty of ballet with the music of Tchaikovsky, hear Mozart’s sparkling concerto for flute and harp, enjoy an organ concerto, and experience highlights from Phantom of the Opera, the Academy Awards, and much more.
This year, our younger audience members will have the opportunity to perform with our soloists, choir and orchestra once more.
Please note the rehearsal dates:
Friday, 17 October | 15:00–16:00 at Helderberg Dutch Reformed Church, 82 Firmount Street, Somerset West and
Friday, 24 October | 15:00–16:00 at Helderberg Dutch Reformed Church, 82 Firmount Street, Somerset West.
All ages and levels are welcome.
Opportunities for participation include:
Dance: Young dancers are warmly invited to join our prima ballerina in Swan Lake and Waltz of the Flowers. A dance instructor will be available to guide the performance, but improvisation is welcome too!
Singing: Aspiring singers can join our gospel choir, Canticum Novum, performing Barcelona and The Lord’s Prayer.
Percussion: Anyone who can play a hand-held percussion instrument (bells, shakers, tambourine, triangle, drums, etc) is welcome to help create a surprise 'grand finale'.
