Athambile Masola’s celebrated debut poetry collection, Ilifa, has been translated into English by the poet from isiXhosa. The translation titled, Inheritance, is set to be published by Batis Books in June.

Athambile Masola will be in conversation with Kwezilomso Mbandazayo on 6 June 2026 (Saturday) at Book Circle Capital (Johannesburg).

𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆

Two Flemish writers are chosen each year to share a residency with 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. In this way, the partners encourage cross-pollination between the writing of writers from different backgrounds and strive to enrich the body of literature here and abroad.

There are 𝗻𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱 and both 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 and 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 of all genres are invited to apply.

The Jakes Gerwel Foundation would like to congratulate Nadia Cassim on being longlisted for the Sunday Times Literary Awards.

Nadia worked on her debut novel, Not Another Samoosa Run!, which is nominated for the fiction prize during her time at Paulet House as a participant of the 2023 Bosberg Book Writing residency.

The Jakes Gerwel Foundation, in collaboration with the Jannie Mouton Foundation’s Oude Leeskamer, provides debut writers the opportunity for further mentorship and to write their second books while staying right at the heart of the picturesque town of Stellenbosch.
