SAACYF-Limpopo Welcomes Newly Appointed MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture

Polokwane, Limpopo | 3 September 2026

The South African Arts and Culture Youth Forum – Limpopo (SAACYF-Limpopo) would like to warmly welcome the newly appointed Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sports, Arts and Culture in Limpopo, Honourable Constance Kupa-Mabuza.

We extend our sincere congratulations to the Honourable MEC on her appointment and wish her every success in her new responsibility. We believe that, under her leadership, the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture will continue to serve the people of Limpopo and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the province’s creative sector.

As SAACYF-Limpopo, we look forward to working closely with the Honourable MEC and the Department to create a healthy, inclusive and progressive environment for arts organisations, cultural practitioners, creatives and artists across Limpopo.

We hope that the new leadership will welcome all stakeholders in good faith and recognise the importance of meaningful engagement with the arts community. We believe that open dialogue, collaboration and mutual respect are essential if we are to address the challenges facing our sector and unlock opportunities for young people and established practitioners alike.

We stand ready to contribute constructively to this journey. Our commitment is to work together with the Department, artists, arts organisations and other stakeholders to advance the creative industry and ensure that Limpopo continues to produce, nurture and celebrate talent.

We believe that Limpopo has immense creative potential, and we are confident that through genuine collaboration, strong partnerships and a shared vision, we can build a more sustainable and vibrant arts and culture sector.

We therefore extend our hand of partnership to the Honourable MEC and her team. We look forward to a progressive journey together in the interest of the arts community and the broader creative industry of Limpopo.

SAACYF-Limpopo Bids Farewell to Outgoing MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Honourable MEC Maseko

On behalf of the South African Arts and Culture Youth Forum (SAACYF) Limpopo, we would like to sadly bid farewell to the outgoing MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture in Limpopo, Honourable Jerry Maseko

During your tenure, you came into the Department at a time when stability, renewed focus and meaningful engagement were needed. You brought stability to the Department and, importantly, demonstrated a commitment to prioritising local artists and the broader creative industry of Limpopo.

One of the qualities we personally appreciated most was your open-door policy. You created an environment where artists, arts organisations and stakeholders could engage directly with you, raise their concerns and share ideas about the future of the creative sector. You did not simply occupy the office of MEC; you made an effort to listen, engage and seek solutions to the challenges faced by our creative industry.

It is unfortunate that we have to part ways before witnessing some of the initiatives and programmes that you championed come to full fruition, particularly the opening of the theatre and the implementation of the strategic planning and vision that you worked tirelessly to advance.

We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to the Office of the Premier: Limpopo Provincial Government for the opportunity afforded to the Department, arts and culture organisations, and artists in particular, through the appointment of an MEC who dedicated his time to listening to the sector and working towards addressing its challenges.

Honourable MEC Jerry Maseko, your contribution has left an important mark on the creative industry of Limpopo. Your name and your work will be remembered and written into the history of our province’s arts and culture sector.

As you embark on your new journey and deployment, We wish you strength, wisdom and success. We may be saying farewell to you in your current role, but the work you have done speaks for you.

STATEMENT OF CONDOLENCE

South African Arts & Culture Youth Forum (SAACYF) Limpopo
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the South African Arts & Culture Youth Forum (SAACYF) Limpopo mourns the passing of Bra Seputla Sebogodi.

Bra Seputla,famously known most by his characters (Nkwešeng,Kenneth Mashaba,Mohumi.etc.) was a remarkable leader, mentor, and champion of the arts whose unwavering commitment to empowering artists and developing young people left an enduring mark on our communities.

Just a month back we had plans together with you as a Forum but we all know, "we plan, God decides"

His wisdom, humility, and passion for preserving and promoting South African arts and culture inspired many and will continue to guide generations to come.
His contribution to the growth of the creative sector and his dedication to nurturing talent will never be forgotten. We are deeply grateful for the legacy he leaves behind and the countless lives he touched through his service and leadership.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, members, and the entire SAACYF Limpopo family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Sebogodi family, friends, colleagues, and everyone whose lives were enriched by his presence.

May you find strength and comfort during this difficult time, and may the cherished memories of Bra Seputla continue to inspire us all.
