Great news - our creative club member Holmes has been upgraded to the Mosaic Market. However, sales were a bit slow at the Scarab Market the last two weeks and he needs a bit of income to keep paying for the market stall (Scarab stall = R250; Mosaic stall = R350). He is just getting back on his feet so there is no capital to work with.

I am posting some of his signed prints. Unsigned versions of these prints cost R250.

If you would like to buy one, please contact Holmes as the sale of these works will assist him to get through another couple of markets.

One of our creative club members is interested in learning more about wines and wine-making. She has quite a good natural talent for identifying specific herbs and flavours.

If anyone in town has wine-tasting events where this person could possibly volunteer and learn more, please let us know (the person in question has waitressing experience which is how the interested in wine started).

Or perhaps there is someone willing to share their passion for and knowledge of wine? We could even have a presentation on this for the benefit of everyone in town?

As creative club coordinator, I did a little search and found the technicalities so fascinating (e.g. the differences in flavour created by different wood used in wine barrels, e.g. oak and pine) but this is a bit far out of my (creative) wheelhouse!

UPDATE: thank you so much to Heather Bam who contributed a gazebo! Holmes is now all set to return to the market.

Thank you also to everyone who shared the post. It's great to know our community is so supportive of our artists.

ORIGINAL POST:
Holmes is one of the more experienced creatives in our group. A very talented artist, he was for a long time a regular exhibitor at Sedgefield's markets before he experienced a personal setback.

The great news is Holmes will soon be back at the market with his beautiful paintings.

One small issue: he needs a gazebo in order to trade.

If you have one you're not using or can sponsor a new one, please DM this page or Shashi Cullinan Cook

Holmes has bravely weathered some really difficult storms in the last year, including a family house fire that destroyed his car, home studio, art materials and some of his artworks. It would be great if someone could supply a gazebo to help him to show his work locally again.

Our January meeting was held in the lovely neat little soccer clubhouse in Smutsville. (Thank you Vuyisile Pauli for organising this 🙏)

The theme questions for the meeting were the things we love (in preparation for our next meeting on 14 Feb) and what we want to remember for the year.

It was really good to see everyone 🤗

Our February meeting was small but lovely, with Lyneve showing us her beautiful collection of beads, many of them home-made of seeds (and bokdrol!) 🤣

Holmes finished making the rosary beads he conceptualised in the January meeting, and Shashi interviewed him for the first in a series of profiles of creative club members.

Thank you so much to Roland Vorwerk and In Toto Retreat for sponsoring tickets for Creative Club members to go to Bo Petersen's incredible show Pieces of Me on Monday 9 March.

The last meeting of the year for Creative Club was memorable - Sedgefield is a very creative little town.

Sesethu, Rachel and Shashi popped in to the year-end exhibition of the Sedgefield Art Society and enjoyed our conversations with the artists.

We browsed The Art Hub where we found locals making gingerbread houses who were unexpectedly knowledgeable about Tupac.

And we went to the Scarab and Mozaic markets and chatted with local artists who gave helpful tips about all sorts of things - how to construct different painting surfaces, and protect your posture as an artist working long hours on canvas 💚🎨🖌️💫

Members of our writing and drama group (Austin, Rachel and Shashi) had a great meeting today planning our activities for 2026. We enjoyed having a look at Nkosi Nkomo's collage work at the Mozaic market.

The final creative club meeting for 2025 will be another visit to the market (in the coming weeks) for the art group to see what local artists are up to.
