Liesbeek Studio Liesbeek Studio Ceramics For more than a millennium Blue and White ceramics have dominated almost all cultures from East to West.

In the 150 years of the Cape being a Dutch colony almost all the ceramics used here was decorated in cobalt blue, but nothing was ever produced locally. This inspired us to start a range of ceramics depicting South African, and mainly Cape Flora, Landscapes and Vernacular Architecture. They are all hand-painted and our inspiration was unashamedly Dutch Delftware, but they have acquired a unique st

yle and clients have affectionately started calling them “Cape Delft”

Items range from tiny thimbles, jugs, mugs , vases and plates to giant serving bowls and platters. We also create celebration plates to order, from the traditional birth plate to wedding, special birthday, anniversary, or retirement plates, These will often depict events, hobbies or interests in people’s lives. We are often requested to paint people’s houses on plates. Whilst they may be very decorative, they are certainly very usable. The items are all high quality non-toxic under-glazed stoneware that is microwave safe, oven and dishwasher proof.
