Happy with my results on this painting. I just used a glazing technique to paint the rose. Starting with a black and white painting (grisaille) and then adding colour in layers until finished. I quite often use a glazing fluid to add glazes but I also use liquin and linseed oil as a glazing medium. My paint is very well suited and selected to compliment my painting style.

I have been so busy with commision work the last few weeks that I dont get a chance to finish my own paintings. Started this one in October already and managed to finish it. Quite tricky to paint bread but I'm happy with my results. 600mm x 500mm canvas Γ nd Rembrandt oils.

Celebrating my 10th year on Facebook. Thank you for your continuing support. I could never have made it without you. πŸ™πŸ€—πŸŽ‰ 10 years doesnt seem like such a long time but if I look at the distance I travelled with regards to art, a lot happened in this period πŸ˜ƒ. I cannot forget the 27 years before this milestone. All the years shaped me into the person I am today.

One of my students wanted to do a still life vanita and obviously I cannot resist still life paintings so I also had to do one. These paintings are highly symbolic and there's always a skull in these type of paintings. All the items represents something. I have about 13 objects present in the painting and this explains all the time spent to complete it. Canvas size 600mm x 450mm and some intricate brushwork. Lots of technique here, especially old masters technique. Oils used --> Rembrandt.

Usually a nice graphite portrait takes about 40 hours to complete but this one took much longer
(75 hours). I planned where all the lighter hair and flyaways should be and did the dark background around the hair. Its not so easy to do a background and then erase where the hair should be. A3 size fabriano el erre paper for this one.

My go to tool for taking measurements on artworks --> proportional divider. I dont use transfer paper or projectors and I dont copy or trace images to canvas or paper to be able to do artworks. I dont need a reference image print out on paper to work from. I use my divider to transfer needed information to the ground I'm working on, to the correct scale, and then I use my drawing and observational skills to do any artwork. I have a simple 7inch tablet that displays my image and I transfer needed information from the screen to my ground. Super easy πŸ˜ƒ. I noticed that dividers are not easy to find in shops. Those that might be available are much too big to even use properly so I manufactured my own dividers. Super accurate and nice sharp points.
