Having its footprint in Tshwane and surrounding areas, Barcadi is a music genre that started in the early 2000’s. Many will remember the front runners like bo Bojo Mujo, Ma-Eli, Mujava, Bakstena, Costa to mention a few. At the time, songs that ruled Tshwane were the likes of Summer Rain ya Bojo Mujo, Naja , and of course Mogwanti Wa Pitoria. Who will forget Thebz Le Madonga’s “He nkao fa o nketse
tsang”, “Tobetsa (Mmao hao bone)”? And of course hits came after hits: Lerao Leo, Casablanca Tsotsi Rae tlhaba, Kaizer! Few years later, Rrekere, as it is affectionately known, took huge strides, my first notable song being Mapentani’s Saka-Saka....
