MY STORY — FROM HUMBLE BEGINNINGS TO A BETTER FUTURE
My name is Lingstone K. Gama.
I was born into a humble family where life was not always easy. We did not have everything we wanted, and there were many challenges along the way. But growing up with little taught me something important: having less does not mean having no future.
My father was Joseph Gama. Sadly, he passed away in 2012. Losing my father was one of the painful moments of my life. His absence left a space in our family that could never simply be filled. But his memory became part of the story that shaped me.
My mother is Funny Kumwenda. She has been an important part of my life and my journey. Through the challenges we faced as a family, I learned the value of perseverance, patience, and never giving up.
MY EDUCATION JOURNEY
My first school was Chasengo Primary School. Later, I continued my education at Jinga Primary School, and eventually I went to Kalovya Day Secondary School.
My journey through school was not simply about books and classrooms. It was also a journey of discovering who I was and what I wanted to become.
I learned that education is not only about certificates. Education gives a person the ability to see possibilities where others see limitations.
MY FAMILY
Today, I have my own family.
My wife is Grace Phiri, and together we have one child, Joseph Gama, who carries the same name as my late father.
When I look at my family, I see more than the present. I see a future that I want to build.
I came from a poor home, but I refuse to believe that poverty must become my family's permanent identity.
I want to change my family history.
I want my child to grow up with opportunities that I may not have had. I want to build a family where hard work, love, education, discipline, faith, and unity are valued.
I may not have started with much, but I believe I can start with what I have and build something better.
THE DREAM I CARRY
My dream is not only to become successful for myself.
I want to become a foundation for the people who come after me.
Maybe I am starting from a small place. Maybe there are people who will look at my circumstances and say, “You cannot make it.”
But I have learned that your beginning does not have to determine your ending.
A person can come from a poor family and still build a wealthy legacy—not only in money, but in knowledge, character, love, wisdom, and opportunities for the next generation.
I know the road will not always be easy.
There will be days when I become tired. There will be disappointments. There will be people who do not believe in my dreams. There will be moments when progress feels slow.
But I will remind myself:
I am not building only for today. I am building for tomorrow.
My father's story ended in 2012, but the story of our family did not end there.
His son continued the journey.
And now I want my son, Joseph Gama, to continue it even further.
WISDOM FROM MY JOURNEY
> **“Never be ashamed of where you started. Be focused on where you are going.”**
> **“A poor beginning is not a poor destiny.”**
> **“You may inherit circumstances from your parents, but you can work to create different circumstances for your children.”**
> **“Do not measure your progress by how far others have gone. Measure it by how far you have come.”**
> **“Build slowly if you must, but never stop building.”**
> **“Your family history can be your motivation, not your limitation.”**
> **“A strong future is built by people who refuse to surrender to a difficult past.”**
LESSONS FROM MY LIFE
1. Never despise humble beginnings.
Every great journey begins somewhere. Your starting point does not determine your destination.
2. Pain can teach you strength.
Losing someone you love can hurt deeply, but the lessons and memories they leave behind can become part of your strength.
3. Family is a responsibility.
Having a wife and child gives me another reason to work hard and think about the future.
4. Poverty should not destroy your dreams.
Coming from a poor home can make life difficult, but it does not mean you should stop dreaming.
5. Think about the next generation.
Sometimes we must work hard not only for ourselves, but so that our children can begin from a better place.
6. Success takes patience.
A tree does not become big in one day. It grows little by little. Life is the same.
7. Character is part of wealth.
Money can come and go, but good character, wisdom, discipline, and love can remain in a family for generations.
MY PROMISE TO MYSELF
I am Lingstone K. Gama.
I know where I came from.
I remember the struggles.
I remember the people who shaped me.
And I know where I want to go.
I want to change my family history—not by pretending that the past never happened, but by using the past as a lesson to build a better future.
I may not be able to change yesterday.
But I can work on today.
And by changing today, I can help create a better tomorrow.
My journey is still being written.
This is not the end of my story.
This is only the beginning of the chapter where I decided to change my family's future.
MY MOTTO
“I may come from little, but I will not leave my family with little. I will work, learn, endure, and build until the next generation has a better place to stand.”
— Lingstone Gama
