THE DAY YOU ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY , YOU FINALLY UNDERSTAND YOUR FATHER.
I never understood why a man would sit alone at a bar, drinking and talking to himself. I mean… literally holding a board meeting inside his own head. 😂😂
Until I assumed responsibility over a family myself.
Then I understood.
There are some problems you don’t announce. Some decisions you have to make quietly. Some nights you sit down wondering how you’re going to provide, protect, plan ahead and still make everybody believe everything will be okay.
It’s sad that many children only truly understand how much their fathers loved them much later in life, sometimes only after they themselves become responsible for a family.
Our fathers were not always perfect. Many of them were not very expressive with their emotions either. Their love often came in the form of “Have you eaten?” “Be careful.” “Go to school.” “I will see what I can do about it "😂
Today, remote jobs, technology and greater exposure have made it easier for fathers to be more present, more emotionally available and more intentional about building relationships with their children beyond just provision and protection.
Sadly, many fathers leave this earth before their children ever get the opportunity to tell them, “Daddy, I appreciate you. I understand now.”
So if your father is still alive, please don’t wait for Father’s Day or his funeral before you celebrate him.
Take a second today. Drop a picture of your dad under this post and say something nice and encouraging to him.
Let him read it while he is still here.
Because sometimes, the flowers we take to the grave should have been given while the person was still alive. ❤️
