Meet South African artist Thalente Khomo

Khomo is a conceptual and fine-art photographer who creates portraiture, fashion, and editorial photography. Her images explore themes such as memory, healing, womanhood, and contemporary African visual culture drawing inspiration from ancestral reflections, identity, softness, and resilience.

Her visual storytelling is deeply influenced by rural KwaZulu-Natal, family archives, and the lived experiences of generations of women.

As part of Repair of the Present and in celebration of Youth Month, you’re invited to come and view her works at the NWU gallery.

We are open Mon - Fri from 09:30 - 16:00.

Retractions: Isaqhubekeka — Thank you for being part of it! 🎭

Last week, the Retractions: Isaqhubekeka Production took place and we’re still feeling the impact. The production spoke to mental health awareness, creating a safe and honest space to confront the silent emotional struggles, withdrawals, healing, and the unseen mental and emotional weight many carry through everyday life.

The journey moved through themes of identity, belonging, judgment, memory, and acceptance, asking powerful questions like:

“Who am I?” — “Ndingubani?”
“Where am I?” — “Ndiphi?”
“Where am I going?” — “Ndiyaphi?”

To everyone who came to see the show, thank you! Your presence and support made the message even more meaningful.

With sincere appreciation:
& to everyone who played a role in making it possible. Thank you for your time, effort, and dedication.

Retractions Isaqhubekeka

Touches and trails of an individual travelling through interims of spaces — searching for pure soulful openness and the freedom to exist fully within self and community. Retractions Isaqhubekeka creates a space for confronting silent emotional struggles, personal withdrawals, healing, and the unseen mental and emotional weight many carry through everyday life.

The work journeys through identity, belonging, judgment, memory, and acceptance, questioning our existence as individuals within society and within ourselves.

“Who am I?” — “Ndingubani?”
“Where am I?” — “Ndiphi?”
“Where am I going?” — “Ndiyaphi?”
