In memory of Steven Bantu Biko martyred September 12, 1977

Bruised, battered, beaten to a pulp
until brain damaged and brain dead,
driven a thousand kilometres in the back
of a Land Rover to martyred death

and now our collective consciousness
is brutally assaulted with material acquisition,
and we sit shamelessly on the driving seat
of a Land Rover Discovery 3, on a slow
and lingering journey to rediscover our stolen soul

emptiness within, illusive satisfaction without,
moral values that mirrored our intellectual horizons
are fast fading like a chasing after a mirage,
taking our journeying nowhere

distant discourse fading fast,
dialogues disengaged,
monologue in fanciful flight

Identity in crisis, alienated
from kith and kin and self,
out of depth, and then
the ultimate intellectual dearth
I shiver, I shudder to think"

The significance of the role of women from different walks of life can never find any form of bounds or constraints. It is limitless as life itself.

As we approach the closing of the month dedicated to celebrating women. May we continue to see them, hear them, know them, and allow them to be as they should. Salute!!
