Welcome to RiverStone Pottery Studio!
The dream for RiverStone Pottery began in 2003 in Maun, Botswana when Rob met an international potter, Sonya, and started taking pottery lessons with her. It wasn’t long before Sonya realised that Rob had a lot of talent and a passion for working with clay, so she taught him a vast range of skills, methods of glazing and firing, and together they experimented with new techniques and finishes. Soon Rob’s pottery was snapped up by people who appreciated original, beautifully made ceramics, both functional and decorative. When Rob returned to South Africa in 2006, his dream to work full-time as a potter, making and teaching pottery in his own studio, was put on hold but not forgotten. After a few years, Rob was able to purchase a pottery wheel, enabling him to create and expand his pottery knowledge once again.
Then, in 2019, his dream began to take shape. First came the pottery studio built by Rob and his son, Ross (who is also a skilled and creative potter). Soon a second pottery wheel and 2 kilns were added to the studio.
In November Rob welcomed his first students to RiverStone Pottery Studio; friends who begged him to give them lessons. Others soon followed, attending classes and workshops, creating their own pottery or decorating ready made items. Commisions for pottery items started coming in and Rob also started firing pottery for hobbyists who had no kiln of their own.
Rob and his wife Clair, who is a Life Coach, collaborate to offer “motivational pottery workshops”.
