Dear Reader.
This poem was written in 2020, published in Echoes of Gqeberha.
Still applicable.
Unfortunately.
Born in the shadow of a pandemic, when livelihoods collapsed and “resilience” became a polite way of saying survive without support.
It named the pothole then.
Today, the road is worse.
Electricity cuts.
Water cuts.
Entrepreneurs expected to perform miracles in a system held together with theft, slogans, and selective amnesia.
Solutions are announced by the same hands that broke the machinery, and we’re told to trust the process—again.
TRIGGER WARNING
The pandemic is a huge pothole
On the highways of our life
The cause of global unemployment
And severe financial strife
Entrepreneurs
are daily challenged
To perform impossible,
magical feats
Because 'leaders'
are corrupt in the dealings
And shamelessly
steal and cheat
A Universal Basic Income
Is their solution
to our woes
But looking at
their poor track record
We'll just see how
That plan goes...
And so it is
