The weather came to the party this morning at the Portuguese Monument Unveiling

Father Bernard started off the proceedings with a prayer service and blessing of the Monument.

Following this, Elias De Sousa from the Portuguese Consulate in Durban said a few words.

Our very own Dave Watson followed with a fabulous retelling of the saga that was the wreckage of the São João and it's importance in our local history.

Representatives from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality laid the beautiful wreath at the foot of the monument.

A ribbon was cut to officially open the site and a champagne toast was enjoyed by all who came along.

We hope to see you all at the Festival to continue the celebration!
