8-Year-Old Hero Lost His Life While Selflessly Protecting His Mother From Her Boyfriend
Eight-year-old Leland “Lee” Arnett, a shining example of courage and love, tragically passed away after suffering severe head injuries during an alleged domestic violence attack at his home in De Soto, Illinois, on the night of 13 May.
According to authorities, Lee and his mother were allegedly attacked by his mother’s boyfriend, Marcus Moultrie, with a baseball bat. Police found Lee seriously injured and his mother unconscious when they responded to the scene. Both were airlifted to hospital, where medical staff fought to save their lives.
Family members say Lee was injured while trying to protect his mother during the attack, demonstrating extraordinary bravery and devotion. He remained hospitalized for several days, inspiring everyone around him with his resilience, before succumbing to his injuries. His mother survived and continued to receive treatment in the hospital.
Following Lee’s heartbreaking death, prosecutors upgraded the charges against Moultrie to include two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody awaiting trial, as the community comes together to support Lee’s family and honor his remarkable spirit.
