This past Saturday, I had the privilege of celebrating my birthday in what has become my second home: The Artists Gallery on 34 Bree Street, .
As I looked around the room, surrounded by many of the living artists we represent, I was overwhelmed by their kindness, generosity, and the effort they made to make the day so special.
It reminded me once again why I do what I do and, best of all, why I love doing it.
I strongly believe that we are all given a talent, and it is our responsibility to use that talent to make a difference in the lives of those around us.
Today, I take a bow to these remarkable artists who have the courage to share their hearts with the world through their art. I celebrate their growth, their dedication, and their willingness to take the bold step of building a career as professional artists.
Many people are drawn to established names from the past, but there is something profoundly meaningful about supporting a living artist.
When you acquire their work, you become part of their journey. You witness their growth, follow their progress, and see their careers evolve.
Years later, you can look at that artwork and remember that you believed in the artist while they were actively creating their legacy.
Living artists are the cultural storytellers of our time. They document our experiences, our hopes, our struggles, and our humanity.
Supporting them is not simply a purchase; it is an investment in creativity, culture, and the future.
As both an artist and co-founder of The Artists Gallery, I consider it one of my greatest privileges to champion living South African artists and to witness their journeys unfold.
To every artist who shared my birthday celebration with me this weekend: thank you. Your passion, courage, and creativity continue to inspire me every day!
And to every collector who chooses to support a living artist: thank you for helping create history, not just preserve it.
