KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport Arts and Culture MEC Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba joined the karate team during SukaSambe program in JL Dube Stadium near Ohlange in Inanda. Llike the words of Drake, “Started from the bottom and now we here.” The SukaSambe Campaign started as just an idea and has progressed to something so much more. Through SukaSambe The Department has unearthed talent at ward based level, connected with sport legends and gave them the platform to pour their knowledge to young sport enthusiasts, through couching clinics. Today SukuSambe is no longer just a campaign, it is an achievement. A lot has been achieved through SukaSambe and many have benefited from it.

MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture in KwaZulu-Natal, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba, officially handed over the Siyabonga Sangweni Sport Complex to Dondotha community under uMfolozi Municipality. The facility is regarded as a game changer in this part of the Province and is positioned to add to the call to use sports and arts to uplift the nation’s mood and to unite people from all walks of life. The National Department of Health and KZN Sport, Arts and Culture will host Cheka Impilo Wellness Campaign and Social Cohesion event in Mbumbulu to deliver basic health services and social cohesion through arts and culture.

Hundreds of traditional ingoma dancers and community members from eThekwini and other parts of the province will tomorrow (Saturday) descend on Mbumbulu for the massive AmaCiko AseMbumbulu Nezempilo-driven ingoma yaseMbumbulu.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo together with KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba will lead the event which aims to encourage people to know their health status through regular health screening and testing and promoting social cohesion through music and performing arts.

“We have got the responsibility to empower our people with health information and education to make well-informed choices to invest in their health to live a long and healthy life. This campaign focuses on health screening and testing in order to know their health status and take action accordingly because early detection saves life”, said Deputy Minister Dhlomo.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahlaba expressed equal enthusiasm ahead of the event, saying part of his department’s mandate was to plant and nurture the seed of social cohesion in all communities. “Ingoma yaseMbumbulu is one example of how we are weaving social fibre, knot by knot and thread by thread.

Ingoma yaseMbumbulu like all other izingoma is supported by KwaZulu-Natal Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and they are positioned to amplify social cohesion and promote art development
