One of my favourites from my last collection.
Presented at Decorex a few months ago.

Cormorant jaw bone and embroidery thread hand dyed with cutch.
On Nepalese Lokta paper.

The sacred Eland.

A beautiful big eland skull adorned with my dictionary of symbols.

Over the last 12 years I have been adorning animal skulls. All skulls are real and ethically sourced.
They are properly cleaned by a taxidermist.
Then painted with over 10 layers of pearl acrylic paint.

I hand illustrate on them with ink and they are sealed with a lacquer.

I sit quietly with each skull no pre planned ideas and I let the symbols come.

It’s a meditative process.
I have complied a dictionary of symbols that I like to go back to for inspiration.

I also repeat a lot of shapes and would say there’s a common language that runs through a collection.

I have a full new skull drop that I will be launching this week.

A Saturday morning in the wonderfully quaint Montagu, filled with the power of connection and botanical colours.

I’m incredibly delighted to have been invited to participate in a group show called “Unearthed” curated by .botha for the opening this coming Saturday.
