Did you know that alligators can’t be walked on leashes? Within minutes of joining a drum circle, it is a relief to discover that, instead of musical notes, this internal chant is a drumming pattern. Even if you are rhythmically challenged, you immediately feel includ
ed and relaxed and create a powerful sound that is not only fun but good for your health. From the shamans of Mongolia to the Minianka healers of West Africa, therapeutic rhythm techniques have been used for thousands of years to create and maintain physical, mental and spiritual health.

And what is this drum circle you ask? We’ll Northside Drumming Circle has risen from the need to openly express the timelessness of this artist community (Northside drumming circle is also a gathering of didgeridoo players and fire dancers). It is a bunch of people with drums (sometimes, metal pipes, cans with stones, or any other contraption one can think of), sitting around a huge fire playing "together" to create a harmonious sound of such raw primal energy. It is almost meditative in some instances, very catching, and one can't help but dance, or move to the rhythm in some way. It is a release of artistic expression. It is one of the earliest known primal expressions of celebration in most all cultures from around the world. No wonder the urge to dance and be caught up in the music is so cathartic and deep. It is your primal instincts telling you to express yourself come alive. Let the music move you. Let your body move naturally without thoughts or words, just feelings. In the most amazing amphitheater in Johannesburg, a group of drummers and fire dancers come together as one showing off amazing skill dancing, drumming, passion and rhythm.
••So FIRE DANCERS & DRUMMERS let us meet again for yet another hot and noisy evening in the AMPHITHEATER of the Frog & Toad••
