The page highlights local arts and crafts and authentic cultural experiences for visitors. ARIVA Arts Shop is a curated cultural space dedicated to Indigenous arts, crafts, and creative heritage from the Garden Route. It serves as both a retail outlet and a living heritage platform, supporting local artists and crafters while offering visitors an authentic cultural experience rooted in place, hist
ory, and community. Our Location: Discovery Point Centre
ARIVA Arts Shop is located at Discovery Point Centre, an iconic heritage site of national and international significance. Discovery Point is widely recognised as one of the earliest places where Europeans made contact with the indigenous Khoi people, marking the beginning of cultural exchange, trade, and complex historical encounters along South Africa’s southern coast. Situated within this layered historical landscape, ARIVA Arts Shop honours the deep indigenous presence of the region while inviting reflection on shared histories, resilience, and cultural continuity. The Home of the AIR Project
ARIVA Arts Shop is the permanent home of the African Indigenous Renaissance (AIR) Project—a heritage-driven creative development programme that identifies, trains, and mentors artists and crafters from rural and underserved communities. Through the AIR Project, participants gain skills in indigenous craft production, instrument making, creative entrepreneurship, and market readiness. The shop provides a vital pathway from training to income generation, ensuring that artists have access to fair trade opportunities and sustainable markets. Supporting Local Tourism in the Garden Route
As part of the Garden Route District, ARIVA Arts Shop contributes to cultural tourism by offering visitors more than souvenirs—providing meaningful encounters with living heritage. Each item tells a story of place, tradition, and contemporary creativity, connecting visitors directly to the people and cultures of the region. By integrating heritage, creativity, and economic development, ARIVA Arts Shop enhances the Garden Route’s tourism offering while strengthening the local creative economy and preserving indigenous knowledge for future generations.
