Ochre Contemporary opens.

Our inaugural exhibition, OCHRE ORIGINS, is anchored by .victor, one of South Africa's most celebrated artists, known for her candle-smoke and soot drawings.

Opening evening 11 December 2026, WayOut Studios, Parson Lane, Mossel Bay. Exhibition runs 11 to 16 December.

This is why we're here.
In the caves at Pinnacle Point, just along this coast from our door, humans were grinding ochre into pigment a hundred thousand years ago, some of the earliest evidence on earth of a mark made to carry meaning. This coastline is where mark-making began.
There's much more to this story, and we'll be telling it. For now: we didn't choose the Garden Route despite it being far from the art capitals. We chose it because meaning was made here first.

Welcome to Ochre Contemporary, a new gallery for conceptual fine art in Mossel Bay, on the Garden Route. We show work where the idea is the point: art made now, chosen on merit, one anchor artist and a company of emerging voices at a time.

Our name comes from the ochre pigment of this coast, and our credo from the act it made possible: the oldest human act is to make a mark that means something. We're glad you're here for the first marks.
