Winsen's Canvases Winsen's Canvases specialises in the manufacturing of Artist's Canvases and Custom Hand-Gilded Frame All products are made to order.

A number of Canvas cloth types and support structures are available. The two locally manufactured cloths are Natural Cotton Duck and Synthetic Polyester Cloth, each having their own characteristics and benefits. A range of imported Belgian Linens are also available that vary in texture and priming type. Support structures include keyed stretcher frames manufactured from imported Obeche wood and Ma

sonite boards – both stretcher frames and boards can be constructed to varying thicknesses. The size and depth of support structure, canvas surface preparation and external frame colouring are customised to the artist or print maker's preference.

As an alternative, we have started manufacturing stretcher frames using Spruce. Although the timber is slightly heavier than Obeche, displays a distinctive grain and carries some tight knots, the species is sustainably sourced from such regions as Northern Europe. Spruce’s resilience to wood borer during its entire lifetime, without the need for fumigation or heat treatment, makes it an attractive option where stretcher frames will be exposed to high-risk environments.
