Plié is EVERYTHING!

In the most complex combinations, I call out to my students, "The most important thing you can show me is an excellent demi-plié in 5th (or 1st, or 4th) position." If you can do that–heels down, legs (not just your feet) rotated to your full turnout, weight properly distributed on your feet, no rolling in on the feet, no bouncing in and out of it, you are already doing everything else in the combination better. Your plié is fundamental to all of your classical movement, as it sets you up to do everything well. Master your plié; the rest will come!
