Meet the Conductor:
Xavier Cloete

The Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to welcome acclaimed South African conductor Xavier Cloete to the podium for Magnificent Mozart.

Recognised as one of South Africa's leading conductors, Xavier Cloete first gained national attention after winning the prestigious Len van Zyl Conductors' Competition, earning unanimous support from both judges and orchestral musicians. His success led to an intensive conducting internship with the renowned Philadelphia Orchestra, where he worked alongside some of the world's most respected conductors.

Originally trained as a bassoonist and conductor at Stellenbosch University, Cloete has built an impressive international career, conducting orchestras in South Africa, Finland, the United Kingdom and the United States. He has served as conductor, educator and artistic director for numerous orchestral projects and has led award-winning ensembles to international recognition.

Known for his energetic musicianship, insightful interpretations and passion for nurturing young talent, Cloete brings a deep understanding of the Classical style to Mozart's music, making him the ideal guide for this special celebration marking the composer's 270th anniversary year.
