From the classroom to paparazzi on the red carpet. Two of our Penryn scholars got to experience all the glitz and glamour of a red carpet event last week. Thando Mathebula and Amy-Lee Card received a private invitation to sing at the Premier for "Hollywood hier kom ek", a TV series in which Kyknet followed Team SA around Los Angeles while performing at the 2019 World Championships of Performing Arts. This Red Carpet event was a huge opportunity for the girls to showcase their beautiful voices to a prestigious audience . Journalists from a few SA magazines were there, such as ‘You/Huisgenoot", as well as a few well known South African celebrities.
"On Monday the 15th of October, Thando and I arrived at the beautiful venue of Monte de Dios. We changed into our elegant dresses and heels and enjoyed our reunion of friends we had made in Los Angeles which we haven’t seen since. Walking in the Red carpet we arrived in the venue where Thando performed first, singing ‘Make me feel my love’-Adele. She was absolutely amazing, gaining a standing ovation! Then it was time to watch the first episode of ‘Hollywood, hier kom ek”. It started with the beginning of our journey to America, showing the travel. To our surprise, an interview with Thando and I sharing our thoughts on the then coming trip was shown. The episode was amazing. Straight after I was asked to come forward and perform “Can’t help falling in love”. The atmosphere of the audience was memorable. The night sadly ended and after millions of pictures, we had to say our sad goodbyes. This event was absolutely beautiful and will be something we will never forget.", - Amy-Lee Card
Tune into Kyknet channel 147, tomorrow, 30th of October and catch a glimpse into the journey that both Amy and Thando took this year. We are certainly proud of everything these two scholars have achieved and we look forward to hearing more from them as their performing dreams come true.
