Tiger Bark Ficus
With a long story from way back...tree was given to me as a seedling that was not looking too healthy in 2010, i then planted onto this rock in 2011 it has gripped onto this rock firmly, some of the roots even fused into one another

Will be doing some root over rock styles next, big and small, doing the bigger ones are more difficult but has a very nice future result, moving them around can be a problem, these rocks can sometimes be heavy😅

I will be doing a root over rock style with multiple small willow leaf fig trees on a massive +-25kg rock that will resemble a rockface with trees growing on the side of a mountain 😉

Stay tuned👌

Getting all these Wild Olive trees back into shape before they become uncontrollable, the next step will be carving, but for now i am just getting them all tamed again 😅

Today i started with the second styling session with my Wild Olive stock, i have a few of them in my growing nursery on the ground, they have actually now grown through their growing bags into the soil underneath, but that encouraged the rapid growth seen here, trees can be grown much faster if planted in the ground for its first few years of training, but if you move around that is not a good idea😅
These will now be placed back on the ground to grow another season into the soil they are placed on, to be styled and carved and planted into their own individual design Bonsai pots.

What a nice cool day to style some trees🌬 started the morning off with a bushy White Olive, these are not the easiest to style because of the distance between nodes, but with more and more trimming that space will reduce and the tree will become nice and dence with nice ramification, with time and patience anything can be accomplished 😉

This tree will be growing in a training container for another growth season, after which it will be transplanted into its first Bonsai pot, i have some time to think what will look the best😅

Something a bit smaller😅
Another one of my Ficus trees that has been part of the collection for a very long time, started from a small root cutting back in 2010 and then planted onto a rock in 2014, the pot also a nice addition to the clay pot collection, a stamped Japanese pot that i bought from my club😊

Getting time to wire and style some trees during Isolation, will be sharing a few start to finish creations, have a ton of unstyled trees waiting to be wired, so i will post those "tutorials" step by step styling of trees on my page, this also acts as a timeline for the growth progress of my trees, in the process educating people on what Bonsai is really about and that this pastime is not only for the Mr. Miyagi and elderly people 😅 but actually something that connects you with nature in a special way🌳🌱🌲 the younger you start the better

Whenever someone asks me what i would suggest as a first Bonsai for someone who would like to start Bonsai as a new hobby, i always suggest any ficus, as these trees are very forgiving and very flexible, also allows for a few different style choices🌲🌳

I don't have many of these, but that's a bummer because they can actually be so well balanced in some styles🤤

When it comes to making any root over rock style, you need to always keep in mind that the tree will grow and the rock will then be more and more consumed by the tree's roots, knowing that you have to decide on the exact angle that growth will compliment both the tree and the rock and that is very important 😊
