We still offer daily city tours, storytellings, events and activations. Plus we are hosting the Sise Kapa Pop-Up Restaurant Weekend at JSE Newtown from 2-4 December. Super proud of our team who under desperate circumstances recreated our venue this week. From chefs to front of house managers on their knees giving new life to a 116-year old marble floor. The Thunder Walker will rise again. Excited to welcome people back to her Scatterlings Arcade for lunch, tocktails, deli shopping and treasure shopping.

JoburgPlaces is about everything that is Joburg. Apart from participating in tours, storytelling sessions and events you can also soon experience the best JoburgPlaces has to offer, once again at its marvellous Thunder Walker venue.

Located in the heart of Old Joburg at 110 Fox street, just behind Gandhi Square, the Thunder Walker is a historic banking arcade, built in 1904. Today the Thunder Walker is the home of JoburgPlaces and while its Zwipi Underground and Town Square Banqueting Hall spaces will remain closed for some time, the Scatterlings Arcade will reopen on Tuesday 28 July. Be sure to visit between 11am and 3pm from Tuesday till Saturday every week.

Yes, you read correctly. The Thunder Walker is ABOUT TO REOPEN with its Scatterlings Arcade reinvented!!!

Guests can look forward to:

One-pot lunches
Sit down, chill and enjoy our most comforting one-pot lunches. The heartiest food, slow-cooked and served in a bowl. Complemented by coffees, teas and cakes, as well as our wide selection of zero-alcohol cocktails, beers, ciders and more.

Town Pantry
Shop for the loveliest edible goodies to take home. These include breads, cakes, pesto, pickled products and fantastic frozen meals, all produced by our in-house kitchen.

REOPENING TUESDAY 28 JULY 2020!

110 Fox Street (between Rissik & Joubert Streets), Marshalltown, Johannesburg

TEMPORARY TRADING HOURS
TUES-SAT 11am-3pm

Due to the current Level 3 Advanced Lockdown Regulations, the Thunder Walker will open for limited hours with all activities focused on the Scatterlings Arcade and Fox Street sidewalk.

Zwipi Underground and Town Square Banqueting Hall will remain closed. We will NOT host any JoburgPlaces storytelling dinners physically until October 2020. We will also not host any events such as weddings until then.

But guests can look forward to an exciting offering in our Scatterlings Arcade.

The Thunder Walker's Scatterlings Arcade is an indoor-outdoor street, covered by a roof, but with the most wonderful natural ventilation. Built in 1904, louvers just below the roof - for the full length of this 3-floors high, voluminous space - provide for perfect natural airflow. Here you will not be trapped in a stale-air enclosed environment. Instead you can enjoy natural airflow without any artificial air-conditioning. If only they built buildings today like they did in 1904!

The Thunder Walker is a visionary project by JoburgPlaces, located in an historic bank building at 110 Fox Street (just behind Gandhi Square).

Closed at the moment due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, JoburgPlaces is re-configuring its use of the arcade space. A new beginning is planned for 28 July 2020.

The other Thunder Walker spaces - Zwipi Underground and Town Square Banqueting Hall - will remain closed for now.
