Liminal is a meditation on the spaces between โ€” between memory and place, body and landscape, belonging and becoming.

The 12 selected films will screen at Gibney: Agnes Varis Performing Arts Center, Studio H, on 23 & 24 September 2026 at 7PM EDT.

WE ARE HERE. THEY HAVE BEEN.

Glynn Alard I am so proud of you and your hearts work.

I am child of Manenberg on the Cape Flats, our voices and our stories are often never fully represented in these institutions and in these buildings. To be part of your exhibition and to be able to stand in it as a co-curator is no small thing. I felt a sense of divine strength walking through temporary-exhibition. To be surrounded by the voices of our ancestors through the rock art in the museum and for this work to be in the same conversation with the messages they left us is a profound experience.

Thank you. We are here because they have been. I am here because of them, our ancestors. Our people. I am a proud brown child, an indigenous child, a black child, a soil child and a Khoi and San child.

This is significant. This makes us matter.

I came to Vienna to work, but I experienced so much more. Through the internship, I had the opportunity to witness the festival from behind the scenes. The excellence of the team, the care in how it operates, and the incredible ecosystem that makes ImPulsTanz what it is. I experienced the dancers, teachers, artists, classes, performances, conversations, and the energy of being immersed in a festival of this scale. Two months of movement, encounters, uncertainty, joy and becoming.

And somewhere within all of this, I found my way back to myself, with a deeper certainty about who I am, what I bring, and where I am going. I leave changed, curious and ready for what comes next.

I am deeply grateful for the space, support and encounters that made this chapter possible. Thank you to MuseumsQuartier Wien, ImPulsTanz โ€“ Vienna International Dance Festival, and the Austrian Federal Ministry for supporting my residency and artistic journey.

And to everyone I met, moved with, laughed with, questioned with and shared this time with โ€” thank you.

I will keep walking. ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿพ
