Ex-Chiefs coach finally breaks silence on humiliating 'translator' tag
Cedric Kaze is done being disrespected. And he's ready to prove everyone wrong.
The former Kaizer Chiefs coach has addressed the label that followed him everywhere. Fans and critics called him 'just a translator' during his time at Naturena. He says the insult never broke him. But he clearly hasn't forgotten it.
Kaze served as both assistant coach and translator under Nasreddine Nabi at Chiefs. The dual role gave critics ammunition to question his coaching credentials entirely. When Nabi left, the scrutiny intensified to another level. Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef were named interim co-coaches at the club. Critics exploded. Social media was ruthless. The 'translator' label became a weapon used against him daily.
Speaking on Sports Nights Amplified on Metro FM, Kaze laughed it off. But his words carried weight. He revealed the club actually asked him to stop translating. He refused. He said he didn't mind doing it if it helped the team. Getting the message across faster mattered more than his ego to him.
"It is funny sometimes because in this modern times of social media people sometimes talk about everything… That is why at the time, even though the club had asked me to not do the translation, I said I don't mind even though it was not part of my job. I said that I don't mind doing it. As long as the message can reach quicker and help the team do better, I didn't mind. The outside world doesn't hurt me because I know where I come from," he said.
He added that he knows exactly what he's capable of delivering. He believes time will silence every single one of his doubters eventually.
Now Kaze has his chance to shut them all up for good. He's been appointed head coach of Sekhukhune United for the upcoming season. No more assistant role. No more translation duties. No more sharing the spotlight. This is his team now. His decisions. His reputation on the line.
The man they called 'just a translator' is now a head coach. Sekhukhune's dugout is where he plans to make his critics eat their words.
