Chickadee Acres Chickadee Acres began as a bakery and cafe, under the name of Sweet Tea and Chickadee. We hope you come and visit us soon.

We have since returned to the roots of good food--the ingredients themselves, and found ourselves on a farm in the Cradle. Sweet Tea and Chickadee aims to ensure that guests are treated to a unique and authentically Southern American experience: from the food, to the drinks, to the environment. From the moment guests walk in the door to the moment they leave, it will be as if they stepped into

South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama…the heart and soul of America. A little bit of history, a delicious bite of food, a good drink, and a whole lot of southern charm. We are committed to working with local farmers and producers to source the ingredients needed in order to create seasonal Southern American cuisine, right here in Johannesburg. Food as it should be: real, authentic, unpretentious, surprising, and full of flavor.

It is pecan harvest season, and y'all are invited...

On June 6th, from 11-4 we are hosting a pecan picking picnic.

Bring your blankets and chairs, we will have your picnic basket ready.

Picnic baskets will be filled with Autumn's 🍁🍂 bounty.

Roasted chicken, cranberry, cambozola and rocket on freshly baked ciabatta bread

Citrus salad with mint and honey

Beef kofta kebabs with a yogurt dipping sauce

Pecan pie

1 liter of raw milk

1 dozen free range/pasture raised eggs

Growing delicious nutrient dense food isn't about growing the plant itself, it is about growing soil.

We have become quite obsessed on the farmstead with amending our soil, and leaf mold is our newest weapon. When you grow without chemicals, you have to use every technique you can. It is all about working with nature and seeing how nature does it without us. It is truly miraculous, and watching it all work together is a daily joy.
