Christa Swart is the curator and manager of the Glen Carlou Gallery. Over the past six and half years, she has both curated and managed the exhibitions presented in this 400-square-meter gallery space. She is committed to her vision for the gallery as both a resource and a platform for energetic and engaging exchange between art and the public.

Christa creates a space in which emerging, mid-career and established South African artists’ work converges with fluidity. Continuously shifting, the annual programme offers a dynamic roster of exhibitions that change every 6 to 8 weeks. Over the years, she has included numerous artists from Kommetjie in both group and solo exhibitions at the gallery.

Christa holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Pretoria. After completing her studies in 2009, she was one of the top 100 finalists in the ABSA L’ATELIER competition in 2010. Since then, she has continued to build a wide range of experience in the art industry, from teaching at the University of Pretoria and working in a variety of art galleries to appraising fine art at auction. To date she has curated over 80 exhibitions at the Glen Carlou Gallery.

Apart from exhibiting in them, McClarty has also curated exhibitions in prominent galleries in South Africa. She joined The Printing Girls Collective in 2020, exhibiting, curating, and managing exhibitions. In 2025, she was elected as an Associate Member (ARE) of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE Printmakers) in the United Kingdom. McClarty’s woodcut “Trace of a red tide” is currently exhibited at the Iziko Old Town House Museum in the exhibition titled “Reflections”.
