✨Congratulations Announcement✨

We are pleased to announce that Ibby Chow has joined Cape Town City Ballet as an Artist 1.

Ibby Chow began ballet at the Northern Dance Academy at the age of five. By the age of 11 she joined the Saturday programme as a NDPJA [Northern Dance Project Junior Associate]. At 12 she began private lessons with Miss Debbie which marked the beginning of her pathway to vocational training in Classical Ballet, Repertoire, Modern and Contemporary dance.

Ibby has competed both locally and internationally. Her first experience was in 2020 at the South African International Ballet Competition. She has since competed at the Fonteyn International Competition London (2024) and Brazil (2025), the International Dance Talent Competition Italy 2025, the Tanzolymp International Ballet Competition - Finalist 2026 and the Finalist top 12 Classical Senior Women YGP Portugal 2026.

She has attended several overseas summer schools, beginning in 2022 at the European School of Ballet in Marseille and followed by the Central School of Ballet in 2023. In 2025 she received two full scholarships to the English National Ballet School and Elmhurst. Through her extensive travels abroad she has broadened her capacity and ability to strengthen not only her technique but also her stage craft and musicality.

We extend our best wishes as she begins her career as a professional ballet dancer.

✨February Highlights - trip CT - Berlin - YGP Portugal ✨

We started in CT with a flight delay causing us changes to our schedule adding an extra leg CT - Amsterdam - Paris - Berlin a long trip arriving in minus degrees. After a restful day Ibby attended a pre comp and Master Classes at Staatliche Ballettschule and Staatsoper Unter der Linden, finishing our week celebrating Chinese New Year with snow ❄️ falling outside the window.

From Berlin snowy cold weather we arrived in Portugal to + degrees a welcome to our system, a lovely local dinner ahead of a very busy schedule of daily Master classes and competition.

An amazing experience meeting dancers from all over the world, connecting with previous colleagues and making new friends.
Finishing with a successful result, so proud of Ibby, it’s not always easy behind the scenes, the hours of daily classes and rehearsals the highs the lows but her dedication and passion to the arts shines through.
