Northern Dance Academy

Northern Dance Academy Northern Dance Academy, situated in Kenridge, offers training in Ballet, Modern and Contemporary. The studio consisted of 30 ballet students.

Northern Dance Academy, renamed in 2006, was originally Deborah McFadden School of Dancing established in Kenridge in 1991. Today it has over 200 pupils learning to dance in Classical Ballet, Modern Jazz, Contemporary and Hip Hop. The studio prepares all students in their different fields of dance for annual examinations, competitions and stage performances.

✨February Highlights - trip CT - Berlin - YGP Portugal ✨

We started in CT with a flight delay causing us changes to our schedule adding an extra leg CT - Amsterdam - Paris - Berlin a long trip arriving in minus degrees. After a restful day Ibby attended a pre comp and Master Classes at Staatliche Ballettschule and Staatsoper Unter der Linden, finishing our week celebrating Chinese New Year with snow ❄️ falling outside the window.

From Berlin snowy cold weather we arrived in Portugal to + degrees a welcome to our system, a lovely local dinner ahead of a very busy schedule of daily Master classes and competition.

An amazing experience meeting dancers from all over the world, connecting with previous colleagues and making new friends.
Finishing with a successful result, so proud of Ibby, it’s not always easy behind the scenes, the hours of daily classes and rehearsals the highs the lows but her dedication and passion to the arts shines through.

Congratulations to Ibby Chow .dance - Vocational dancer at Northern Dance Academy, Ibby competed at Portugal 🇵🇹 this past weekend achieving Top 12 Senior Classical Women category.

An incredible achievement Well done! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Ibby was also invited to the scholarship class receiving 2 scholarships, we are so grateful for these opportunities!

Ibby Chow has achieved her Solo Performance Modern Diploma this last weekend in Durban. This is the pinnacle examination in the AIDT Modern examinations! We have also received wonderful news from the RAD Fonteyn Competition she attended during September in London, Ibby has a full Summer School Scholarship for 2025 at Elmhurst Ballet School Birmingham, England. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🩰🩰🩰

What an amazing experience for Ibby at the RAD Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition held in London, the weeks coaches were incredibly giving of their time and knowledge, Darren Parish teaches globally for companies and vocational schools, Isabel McMeekan was a First Soloist of Royal Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet now a Principal coach for The Royal Ballet, Samira Saidi after 20 years career with Sadler’s Wells and Birmingham Royal Ballet, a Repetituer for the Royal Ballet and finally Justine Berry a graduate of the RAD’s Professional Teaching Dancers’ Diploma teachers at the Royal Ballet School, invaluable knowledge was learnt.
There were 64 dancers from all over the world, Ibby formed friendships with many dancers that inspired her, the process of 3 days of semi-finals was exhilarating and a test of holding one’s nerves!
Congratulations to the 12 finalists one from SA training in Zurich.
Though Ibby did not make the finals what an incredible wonderful journey, I am incredibly proud of her and am excited for her future, each experience brings her closer to her goals! 🩰🩰🩰
