Ballet Trains your Brain 🧠

ADULT BALLET CLASSES

Come along and feel your brain and nervous system “wake-up”
Of course there are quite a few other wonderful “side effects” of doing ballet training but we wouldn’t want to divulge ALL our secrets all at once 😉

Kalk Bay Community Centre
Mondays and Tuesdays 5pm
Thursdays 10.30am
Unbeatable fee rates and fabulous people plus we have sea views … and dolphins 🐬

“Ballet is a rigorous cognitive workout that builds permanent new neural architecture. It trains your brain by requiring the simultaneous processing of music, rhythm, memory, and complex spatial awareness, which actively stimulates motor control systems and executive function.”

ADULT BALLET CLASSES

KALK BAY

BALLET ON THE BAY
Situated in a studio atmosphere best described as “supportive but haunted”

Students are encouraged to bring whatever they have to class. If that means only part of your body made it out of bed this morning, bring that, we can work with that. Contrary to popular belief, dancers are still able to function at reasonable cognitive levels even when they seem absent.

So if this sound like your kind of ballet class (and it is a proper
ballet class without the anxiety and pressure) come along:

Mondays and Tuesdays 5pm
Thursdays 10.30am (followed
by coffee in Kalk Bay)

And yes, it is PROPER BALLET

Chaines Best description

17/05/2026

A local dance academy got an unexpected guest instructor when a wild swan wandered through the studio's open back doors. The elegant bird completely bypassed the lobby and waddled directly onto the polished hardwood floor, joining a class of young ballerinas right in the middle of their morning practice. Instead of flapping around or causing a panic, the swan simply stood next to the wooden barre and gracefully lifted one webbed foot behind itself. The students froze in absolute awe, realizing the feathered intruder was inadvertently demonstrating the most flawless arabesque they had ever seen.

The human instructor stepped back, completely mesmerized by the bird's natural poise and incredible balance. The young dancers quickly followed the swan's lead, trying their best to copy the majestic posture of their impromptu teacher. The bird held its pose for an impressively long time, seemingly enjoying the quiet, classical music playing from the corner speakers. Eventually, the swan lowered its foot and calmly waddled back outside to the nearby pond, leaving the ballet class incredibly inspired by nature's original dancer.

Adult Ballet Kalk Bay

At Kalk Bay Community Hall, the Thursday morning adult ballet class at 10:30am — plus the gloriously ungovernable Monday and Tuesday 5pm sessions — unfold inside a studio that feels less like a community hall and more like a forgotten rehearsal room drifting slowly out to sea.

Sun-bleached wooden floors, impossible light, salt in the air, windows flung open to the glittering chaos of False Bay. Everything glows. Even your tendus look cinematic for at least seven seconds.
It is airy enough for ambition, delusion, and approximately twenty adult dancers silently wondering why the warm-up already feels like cardiovascular warfare. Seagulls heckle from outside. Trains rattle past like dramatic timing cues from the universe itself. Somewhere beyond the windows and open doors the ocean performs continuously for free. It is not uncommon for class to stop to watch whales and dolphins.

And yes, the studio may be haunted but you would have to come and see for yourself …

Classes are only ever cancelled during natural disasters ie fire, flood and pandemic. The ballet teacher has been known to teach from a prone position on a therapy table (true story) and our classes do continue through Public Holidays and School holidays

Professional Adult Ballet Teacher

Cape Town-based posture correction specialist and emotional support cryptid with extensive experience guiding fully grown adults through the psychologically devastating experience of pirouettes.

Adept at identifying tension; improving alignment; and pretending not to notice when someone silently rage-quits during tendus.

Simultaneously operates as a needlework artisan, transforming existential fatigue into aggressively embroidered floral patterns while surviving on weak cappuccinos, cold water immersion, and the unpredictable governance of orange cats (but that’s a whole other story)

Core Skills

• Pirouette crisis intervention
• Posture correction delivered with devastating eye contact
• Extreme patience with adults wearing split-sole shoes incorrectly
• Existing dramatically in soft lighting
• Surviving on caffeine concentrations medically classified as "symbolic"

• Able to identify the exact moment an adult student realizes ballet uses muscles previously believed to be decorative
• Maintains calm classroom environment despite ongoing psychological warfare between the left and right side of the body
• Specialized in explaining turnout using increasingly unhinged metaphors
• Experienced in witnessing people discover hamstrings in real time

ADULT BALLET KALK BAY COMMUNITY CENTRE

A bit of rain doesn’t scare us! We dance in the puddles

The focus over the next term will be:
Building BRAINS/BALANCE AND BONES so bring those tired and overstretched brains and bones and let’s BEND; BUILD and BOLSTER our BODIES

“Ballet isn’t just aesthetic training. It challenges the body in structural ways that many people don’t realize. It may look delicate... but it’s doing more under the surface than you think!” Caroline Simpkins

Look forward to seeing you all this week 🤗
