Ballet Term of the Week 🩰
Temps Lié - from French, meaning “connected movement.”

In ballet, temps lié is a sequence of connected movements that smoothly transfers weight from one foot to the other.

Although it’s often taught early in ballet training, temps lié develops skills that dancers use throughout their entire careers. From a biomechanics perspective, it trains controlled weight transfer, dynamic balance, and coordination as the body’s center of mass moves from one base of support to the next.

Rather than thinking of each position as separate, temps lié teaches dancers to connect every movement into one continuous flow.

Good dancing isn’t just about beautiful positions… it’s about how you move between them.

Adult Ballet Classes

Ballet on the Bay - Kalk Bay Community Centre

There are many reasons why joining an adult ballet class is good for you, all of which can be easily researched but why not come along to one of ours at Kalk Bay Community Centre and check it out yourself, chat to any one of our adult ballet dancers.

Ages vary from late twenties to seventies. Experience levels vary from beginner to (retired) advanced. Most of our minds and bodies have been through a lot and come out the other end a bit bruised and battered but as soon as we’re in class we’re in a space where everyone understands.

Mondays and Tuesdays 5pm
Thursdays 10.30am
