Steve Biko understood that education is more than the acquisition of knowledge—it is the awakening of dignity, critical thought, and the courage to imagine freedom.
Murdered by a regime for carrying the torch of emancipation; this painting, an alla prima sketch based on postmortem photographs, is a reminder of the price paid for the spark—and of its enduring power.
