The Art Room We feature an art gallery and a framing service which specialises in archival framing practices. All frames are custom made and finished by hand.

The gallery features group shows of art on paper by contemporary SA artists.

On the right hangs a lithograph by Banele Khoza. You see a bunch of flowers in a vase on a table. The purple flowers appear rather seductive against the green shades of the stems and leaves. You notice the card that says Love Is On The Way and it leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling.

But then the bananas begin to bother you. They don’t look so fresh anymore. And you notice the petals on the table that had fallen off the flowers; this person has been waiting for love for a long time.

This is when you realise that the artist didn’t merely create a pretty still life with flowers, but had thought long and hard about his message; for something to happen, you have to be proactive.

Looking on from the left is a 7-colour silkscreen print by Lehlogonolo Mashaba from his highly successful Markings Of Belonging series from 2013, finished in hues of blue and pink.
