Don’t miss Leo de María’s solo concert at the Linder Auditorium, Johannesburg, this Sunday.

Leo performed with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra on 02 April 2026.

“The pianist Leo de María met the technical and artistic demands of the work head-on, proving why he won the First Prize of the UNISA International Piano Competition in Pretoria in 2024, playing this exact piece in the final round. He has, of course, won many other prizes such as the Santa Cecilia, Antón García Abril, Ciutat de Xàtiva, Ciudade de Ferrol. The list goes on.” - Albert Combrink, Weekend Special review (https://weekendspecial.co.za/cpo-review-mussorgsky-tchaikovsky-haydn/)

Dear Music Lovers

Our April concert welcomes Madrid-born pianist Leo de María, an artist whose commanding musicianship has earned him first prizes at the UNISA International Piano Competition, the Ciudad de Ferrol International Competition in Spain, the MozARTé Competition in Germany and the Grand Prix de Lyon in France.

Founder-director of the Morales Herrero Elite Piano Academy and a sought-after masterclass professor in Connecticut and Salzburg, de María brings a combination of virtuosity, depth and imaginative insight to the stage.

For the Johannesburg recital, he presents a programme of works by Schumann, Granados, Liszt and Ravel – a journey through Romantic intensity, Spanish colour and pianistic brilliance.

“Anatomists today would be hard put to identify the brain of a visual artist, a writer, or a mathematician – but they could recognise the brain of a professional musician without a moment’s hesitation.”
