Come and visit us tomorrow from 10am - 5pm for the exhibition opening of LANDFORMS.

Including a range of Contemporary South African artists who work across mediums of clay, wood, fibre & botanicals.

Colour, form and textural elements that remind us of the constant quiet transformation of the seasons and the terrain. As we have now entered Autumn, the light has shifted, the leaves have started changing and falling, leaving silhouettes of bare trees and exquisite landforms.

Kim Sacks Gallery invites you to our upcoming exhibition opening this Saturday the 11th of April from 10am to 5pm.

Landforms brings together a group of artists working across clay, wood, fibre and botanicals to explore the language of landscape terrains through material and form. Echoing eroded surfaces, woven lines and layered terrains, the works mimic and reimagine the surfaces of landscapes, from the undulating forms of the natural world to the fractured, constructed textures of the urban environment.

Set within the quiet shift of Autumn in Johannesburg, this exhibition is attuned to the tones of the season—wooden hues, burnt oranges, terracottas, and deep reds, softened by lingering traces of green. These tones surface subtly across the works, echoing a landscape in quiet transition, where warmth recedes and forms begin to settle.

Come and share your thoughts over a cup of tea.

We have just received the most exquisite hand-spun and woven mohair tapestry with grass details from Frances van Hasselt's studio in Prince Albert. Come and see it upstairs in our Maker's Space Gallery.

"Veld Mappings", 2025, is a part of the Desert Mindscape Collection.

(Composition: 90% mohair, 10% cotton)

Artisans: Katriena Kammies
Found Wire hanger: Louis Schoeman

"Veld Mappings" unpicks the relationship between natural fibres, both animal and plant. This piece exposes the fact that in nature plant and animals are symbiotic and as such it makes sense that they complement each other in final fabrics. The animal eats the plant, and the plant is fertilized by the animal. The relationship between the two relies on natural elements and thoughtful, human management. The aim of this piece is to deconstruct a label. Make people think about what fabric composition really means. So that we start to connect a tag indicating composition, e.g.mohair-linen or cashmere-silk, to an actual plant and animal species, and start acquiring insight into the fact that these threads stem from an ecosystem that nurtures animals and plant life, preserves the soil and supports a large community of actors that hold these fabrics together.
