The End of an Era - Theatre in the Park
In 2018, Theatre in the Park was founded with a vision to create a unique and intimate space for live performance in Delta Park.
Over the past eight years, it grew into something truly special - a place filled with music, theatre, laughter, and community. Together, we created a space that became part of the cultural fabric of Joburg.
Earlier this year, we became aware of a “new theatre initiative” being launched in the same space where Theatre in the Park has operated for the past 8 years.
This has come as a complete surprise - as there has been no communication, no consultation, and no acknowledgment of the theatre that existed there for 8 years, or the contribution it made to the Delta Environmental Centre and community.
For something built over many years through trust, collaboration, and shared value, this lack of acknowledgment is difficult to understand.
That said, we want to be clear about one thing:
Theatre in the Park was built over time - with heart, people, and purpose.
It didn’t just appear - and it won’t be forgotten.
With that, this chapter - as it existed in Delta Park - comes to a close.
Thank you to every artist, every audience member, and everyone who was part of this journey.
What we created together mattered.
And it always will.
