James Currey has often been called the “Godfather of African Literature “. He has published great works from literary giants like Chinua Achebe, Ngugi wa Thiong’o and so many others, especially in times when publishing books about Africa were not profitable.

This award is made out in honor to him and exceptional devotion to African literature.

Onyeka Nwelue is an award winning author, filmmaker and talk show host. He is currently a Visiting Fellow at the African Studies Centre, University of Oxford.

Adding another feather to his cap, he is the Director of the James Currey Society and the founder of the James Currey Prize for African Literature.
