For many years, Karen Cullinan and Andrew Ntshabele have shared a creative relationship founded on mutual respect, thoughtful dialogue and a belief in the transformative power of art. Since 2020, Artyli Gallery has had the privilege of representing Andrew’s remarkable practice, witnessing his work find homes in significant collections both locally and internationally while continuing to resonate with audiences across generations.
In Andrew Ntshabele’s paintings, the archive becomes a place of possibility. His works draw on histories of oppression, resilience and lived experience, transforming memory into a language of hope. By placing Black children and mothers at the centre of his compositions, he brings visibility to stories too often overlooked, creating paintings that speak with quiet strength, dignity and compassion.
Grounded in spirit, prayer and remembrance, Andrew’s practice invites us to look honestly at the past, not to remain there, but to imagine a more humane future. At Artyli Gallery, we are proud to continue this journey alongside an artist whose work reminds us that art can preserve memory, encourage understanding and illuminate the path towards healing.
