✨ What a privilege.

Yesterday our Senior company rehearsed Nutcracker choreography with the wonderful Candice Desilets — a Vaganova Academy graduate, bringing the tradition straight from St Petersburg to our Johannesburg studio.

There is no substitute for learning from someone who has lived the method from the inside. Our dancers felt it. We all did. 💙🙏

❄️ It’s that time of year again.

The Nutcracker is in the air — and our dancers can feel it. 🎄

This year, several of our Junior company dancers have stepped up to the Senior company. New company. New roles. New chapter. And on these photos — two of them. Skye and Jana — last year’s Fritz and Young Masha — back, older, stronger, and ready for whatever this season brings.

What will this year hold for them? We can’t wait to find out. And neither, we suspect, can they. 👀

🎄 The Junior Company is in the room — and Nutcracker season is in full swing.

Party Scene rehearsals are underway, and this year’s cast is something special. New faces, new energy, dancers from RSB and from other schools coming together for the first time — all working towards one shared goal: that December stage.

Watching them find the choreography, find each other, and find their place in this production is one of our favourite things about this time of year. Every rehearsal, they get a little sharper, a little more confident, a little more alive on that floor.

This is just the beginning. Watch this space. 💙🎄

Our Minis had their very first Nutcracker rehearsal today — and the energy in the studio was already something special. These little ones are learning their steps for Mother Ginger, and let me tell you — the charm is already there in abundance. 😄

Big cast this year. And this is only some of them — a few are still on holiday!

There’s nothing quite like the energy of an audition room — focused faces, flying grands jetés, and dancers giving everything they’ve got from the very first grand allégro across the floor. 🩰

As we gear up for this year’s Nutcracker auditions, we’re looking back at some of our favourite moments from auditions past — the leaps, the extensions, the sheer determination in every dancer’s eyes. Whether you’re a Mini, Junior, or Senior, this is where the magic begins.

❄️ The Nutcracker is calling — will your dancer answer?

Every year, we bring one of the greatest classical ballets to life on stage. This December, Roodepoort Theatre becomes the Land of Snow, the Kingdom of Sweets, and everything in between — and we are looking for the dancers who will make it happen.

YRBC Nutcracker 2026 auditions are open to experienced dancers aged 10 and up — including external students from other dance schools.

This is not a school show. This is a full classical production, staged by a professional youth ballet company trained in the authentic Vaganova method.

The standard is high. The experience is unforgettable.

🌸 Swanhilda and her Friends — Coppélia 2024.

Coppélia is one of ballet’s most beloved stories — and one of its most demanding. Not just technically, but as an actor. To dance Coppélia well, you have to feel it. You have to be playful, mischievous, warm, and alive — every single moment on that stage.

And that is exactly what our dancers brought to Roodepoort Theatre in 2024.

Our very own Keren led the stage as Swanhilda — radiant, expressive, and utterly captivating. Watching her and her friends bring this village full of life, laughter, and drama to the audience was one of those moments that reminds you why we do what we do.

This is what performing in a full production gives a dancer that a competition variation simply cannot. The courage to act. The freedom to express. The ability to hold a character through an entire performance, not just two minutes on a competition stage. These are skills that stay with a dancer for life — on and off the stage.

Every production we stage is an opportunity to grow — as a dancer, as a performer, and as a human being.
