Yesterday is history & Tomorrow is Mystery
Acrylic on Canvas
100 x 150 cm

Lucinda Mudge makes art that looks beautiful but also tells a story about life. This piece uses a famous saying to tell us that we cannot change the past and we do not know the future. All we have is today.

By putting these words on a beautiful ceramic vase, she reminds us that life is precious and fragile, just like clay."

Paul Augustinus is a legendary figure in wildlife art, and this painting is a perfect example of why he’s often called a "wilderness artist" rather than just a painter. Having spent decades literally living under canvas in the most remote parts of Africa, he doesn't just paint animals; he paints the atmosphere of being there.

He doesn’t just paint wildlife; he paints the profound silence of the African wilderness. Having lived in the bush for decades, his work captures the "spirit of place" that few others can reach. Experience this stunning display of light and life at the gallery today.

Lee-Ann Heath works primarily with impasto oil paint, drawing inspiration from nature and her personal connections to explore sensation and emotion. Her process involves balancing confident, expressive brush and palette knife marks with moments of vulnerability, building up thick layers of colour and form that interact and evolve over time.

Embracing both intention and accident, Heath allows unexpected moments to shape each work’s identity. The heavily textured surfaces, often shaped by her hands and fingers, create tactile, almost sculptural paintings that invite a strong sensory and physical response from the viewer.

CHAPER 1

In heart of Steyn City Estate, nestled among lush greenery, stood The Gallery, a vibrant haven for art lovers. The current exhibition, "In Every Detail," showcased an eclectic mix of artworks celebrating the rich tapestry of human experience, set to run until March 2026.

On a busy Saturday afternoon, I entered the gallery, greeted by the warm ambiance and the sound of soothing music filling the air. The beautiful wine-red walls created a striking backdrop for the art on display. Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, illuminating the pieces and enhancing the lively atmosphere around me.

My journey began with Joel Mpah Dooh’s "Untitled (Man With an Umbrella)," a mixed media piece that commanded attention with its raw emotion and material. Next, Lucinda Mudge’s "My Story, My Gold" caught my eye, its ceramic sparkle whispering secrets of resilience, while her nearby creation, "Lookielookie," dazzled with its gold lustre.

Continuing on, I was drawn to Thea Soggot’s "Back III," whose earthy tones evoked nostalgia and a deep connection to the land. Amos (Mokgabudi) Letsoalo’s "Corrupted" followed, a powerful charcoal drawing that explored themes of vulnerability, igniting profound reflection. Finally, I stood captivated by Carla Louw's "Vera," an oil painting that beautifully encapsulated the complex emotions of love and loss.

As the afternoon wore on, I settled into a cozy corner, jotting down my thoughts inspired by the artworks and the enchanting sounds of Lenk’s music. Each visit to The Gallery promised new insights and a deeper appreciation for creativity. "In Every Detail" was not just an exhibition — it was an invitation to explore the rich stories woven into the fabric of humanity.

Stepping back into the vibrant world of Steyn City, I felt my heart brimming with inspiration, already planning my next visit to delve deeper into the captivating stories each artwork had to share, accompanied by the lingering notes of choir melodies.
