Hey I’m Emmaly I am 26 Almost 27 I’ll be 27 in July as some or most of you know today is and I am 1 in a million ladies, gentlemen, and everything in between, I have CPEO. What is CPEO, you may ask? And to that I say, something you do not want. You see, CPEO is a disease that affects the muscles of the eyes, causing them to droop over time. Add on to that myopathy, and I’m pretty much the poster child of being tired. However, that has never stopped me from rocking out. And it shouldn’t stop you either. Growing up, life wasn’t easy. I couldn’t run as fast, work as hard, or feel as good as the other kids. I was picked on for my eyes, and had to deal with a constant barrage of questions as to why I was always so tired. Because of this, music became my home. Something I turned to not only for comfort, but for my soul. Something about music seems to be built into my DNA. Maybe that’s what replaced the mitochondria. When I listened to music, I felt alive again. Maybe it wasn’t the energy to lift weights or to run a mile, but it was energy nonetheless. I may have chronic progressive external optimoplegia, but I am so much more. I’m a human. But that doesn’t mean I was always treated like one. The medical field is notoriously bad with women’s health, and my experience was no different. Due to the unique nature of my condition, I became a type of guinea pig for my doctors. They treated me like some sort of test subject Continued in comments ….
