The effect of moisture on a Pipe Chanter reed.
It makes good sense that the more you play a pipe chanter reed the more moisture it would absorb.
So one might expect that as you play your pipes they would become flat as moisture is absorbed by the cane. Yet the truth is that the pipes rise in pitch in the first 15 min of playing. The reason for this is that the can is being pushed together by the air pressure acting on it because the lips of the reed are now closer together it rises in pitch.
