We’re incredibly proud to share that Born of Light and Dust has been awarded Africa Wildlife Artist of the Year 2026.
This piece holds a deeply personal place in my practice—an exploration of presence, resilience, and the quiet strength carried within the natural world. To see it recognised in this way is both humbling and profoundly affirming.
The Africa Wildlife Artist of the Year competition continues to play an important role in celebrating artistic excellence while supporting vital conservation efforts across the continent—something we are honoured to be part of.
With gratitude to the organisers, the judges, and to all who continue to support meaningful work that speaks for the wild.

A young lion rests, his paws stretched forward — already immense, already carrying the promise of what he will become.
A lion’s paws are more than scale and muscle; they are instruments of survival, bearing the future weight of the pride, the hunt, the land itself. In this moment of stillness, power lies quietly in reserve.
This charcoal work from Collected Moments of Survival has now been placed with its new custodian, through the Fine Art Gallery in Swakopmund — true stars in the constellation of African art, guiding moments like these to where they belong.

Marmite Yellow feels both intimate and iconic — rooted in South Africa, yet universally human.
If this piece speaks to you — the humour, the nostalgia, the quiet beauty — I’d love to chat and share more details.
Slow art. Considered art. Art that grows on you.

The Marmite jar feels weathered, familiar — like something that has lived many lives in a household.
Grace uses objects like this to speak about heritage, memory, and the slow erosive nature of time.
They carry stories the way families do.
A painting that feels like it’s remembering with you.

There’s play in this painting — but it’s intentional.
Grace says she looks at “the seriousness of humour… the theme of play and humour.”
A jar used as a vase makes us smile — and then invites us to look deeper at what we value, remember, save, and repurpose.
Art that winks at you… then lingers.

Grace often explores how nature finds its way into our built spaces — sometimes gently, sometimes insistently.
Here, the flowers rise from a Marmite jar as if they’ve claimed their place: delicate, persistent, flourishing despite the world around them.
Soft resilience, disguised as still life.

Marmite is woven into so many South African kitchens — a flavour, a memory, a quiet anchor to home.
In Marmite Yellow, Grace Kotze turns this everyday icon into something poetic: a vessel that carries flowers, history, and humour — all at once.
A reminder that the ordinary is rarely ordinary.

Born out of the uncertainty of COVID, this crow stands as a quiet witness to everything we endured. Titled Hope, it invites us to lift our gaze and imagine a future rebuilt with courage, compassion, and possibility.
