How to: Moonwalk!
this flashy, dance move is simple at its core however, requires some balance and a bit of coordination.
drill 1. practice walking on your toe stops!
keep your knees bent and think about becoming a creeping monster when you first start practicing this. You'll get to know exactly where your toestops are and how it feels with all your weight on your toestops alone, while developing balance.
drill 2. pop your hips!
staying in one spot, roll your feet forward and backwards, alternating feet. as you roll your front foot out forwards, pop the hip on the back foot, then swap. this not only helps keep your moonwalk looking smooth and connected, but will also help keep your weight centered kn the back foot.
steps for the moonwalk:
• plant your weight on the toestop on your back foot.
• roll your front foot back past your back foot.
• when your front foot is behind you, shift your weight on to the 'new' back foot.
• repeat! (plant, roll, switch, roll, switch, roll, switch...)
as you gain confidence and balance, you can practice extending your rolling foot further behind you, before placing the toestop down.
