Discover the full Strauss & Co presentation at FynArts Festival Hermanus 2026 | 6 – 14 June

In a new initiative and for the first time a live broadcast by Fine Music Radio celebrating the arts from the Hermanus FynArts Festival is made possible courtesy of Strauss & Co.

A focal point of Strauss & Co’s’ participation this year is a museum quality exhibition titled “Time and Tide: Expressions of Hermanus and the Coastal Overberg” to be shown at the FynArts Gallery. Curated by Strauss & Co art specialists, the exhibition will highlight local art heritage and emerging talent from Hermanus and nearby areas.

A talk by Ian Hunter, senior art specialist and regional representative – Mossel Bay to Gqeberha – will give further insight into the exhibition. Ian will share his passion and extensive knowledge of the artists and history of the region.

As in previous years Strauss & Co will again host a valuation day for clients in the area.

🎵 Founded in 1914 as the Cape Town Municipal Orchestra, the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) stands as the oldest continuous symphony orchestra in Africa. Over the years, the CPO has adapted and grown, but its deep historical roots remain intact. Today, it operates as a multi-functional orchestra, providing world-class musical services to our region and serving as an orchestra for all.

🎵 The Hermanus FynArts Festival is delighted to announce, for the first time, a full symphonic programme in Hermanus. In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of Beethoven's death
in March 1827, the festival will present an all-Beethoven concert as the official closing event for the 2026 Festival.

🎵 As part of the festival's commitment to supporting and showcasing emerging talent, the programme will feature the acclaimed young pianist Chanda Bupe Lupambo.

💙 KIRUMIRA ROSE NAMUBIRA

🖤 "Life Vest Under Your Seat"

🖤 This concept about an aeroplane seat and its attention to, “life vest under your seat,” is the inspiration for this sculpture; a back rest, an arm rest, and a window, from which we safely seat to observe space, water and land.
🖤 This seat is a retrospection about human existence, enduring connections and a traveller’s place in life. Well-as the life vest suggests precarious human circumstances, the wood sculpture will provide a resilience.

◼️ Objects from different eras are reimagined and combined to explore identity, memory, and displacement.
◼️ Ugandan artist Kirumira Namubiru uses wood, metal, repetition, and surface to question context and meaning, creating new spaces for dialogue and interpretation.

🖤 As a lithophonic instrument, it sings with pure, resonate tones, reminding that true artistry lies not in domination, but in revealing the hidden music within nature itself.

◼️ Working site-specifically with natural materials found on location, his work explores impermanence, playfulness, and a deep respect for nature.
◼️ Strijdom van der Merwe creates environmentally sensitive artworks that range from ephemeral interventions to commissioned permanent installations.
