We had Hester Finberg, Festival Director of the , Nicolette Johnstone, Patron of the Kalfiefees, Alderman , and , Strategic Communications for the Kalfiefees, visit us at the swop shop. Thank you Nicolette for the hand-knitted pouches for young girls to safely and discreetly carry their feminine hygiene products.

Founder Vivienne Mitchley and Craig Mitchell, Waste Manager for Overstrand Municipality, sharing their knowledge with Hawston's youngsters at the Thusong Community Centre.

Recycling is about so much more than keeping our streets clean. It's about protecting our environment, reducing waste, creating opportunities, and building stronger communities for future generations.

💙 THE NEED IS GROWING... AND SO IS THE IMPACT. 💙

When we launched the Hawston Swop Shop, we hoped it would make a difference.

We never imagined just how quickly our community would embrace it.

Every week, families are bringing in bags of recyclables, helping to keep Hawston clean while earning vouchers for food and essential household items. It's changing lives, creating hope and giving dignity back to families who need it most.

But because of this incredible support...

Our shelves are emptying faster than we can restock them.

♻️ One Week. One Community. Incredible Impact. 💚

When we launched the Hawston Swop Shop, we hoped it would make a difference.

We never imagined just how big that difference would be in only ONE week.

The amount of recyclable waste collected has exceeded every expectation. Hundreds of kilograms of plastic, cardboard, glass and cans have already been diverted from landfill and given a new purpose.

But perhaps the biggest impact hasn't been on the environment...

It's been on people's lives.

Families are walking away with essential food and household items. Children are proudly collecting recyclables instead of throwing them away. The community is taking ownership of creating a cleaner, greener Hawston.

It has shown us something we weren't prepared for... The need is far greater than we could ever have imagined.

Our shelves are empty and we need to restock them because so many families need support.

That's why we're asking for your help - whether you donate a few essential food items or contribute financially, every donation helps us keep the Swop Shop open and ensure that every family who brings in recyclables can exchange them for the essentials they need.

💚 WE NEED YOUR HELP TO RESTOCK THE HAWSTON SWOP SHOP 💚

When we launched the Hawston Swop Shop, we knew there was a need.

What we didn't expect was just how great that need would be.

Within hours, families had exchanged their recycling for essential food items, and our shelves emptied far quicker than we ever imagined.

Since then, one moment has stayed with us.💔💔

A youngster, no older than 12, looked at their younger siblings and quietly said:

"Sien... ons het vannaand iets om te eet."
"Look... now we have something to eat tonight."

Those words are why we're asking for your help today.

We're urgently trying to restock the Swop Shop with basic food essentials so that we can continue supporting families who simply need a helping hand.
