CAPE ACCUEIL //

On Saturday, 14th of October, BAZ-ART hosted a street art tour with 17 members of the NPO, Cape Town Accueil.

Cape Town Accueil is a non profit organisation, which aims to integrate and facilitate the adaptations of Francophone newcomers, now working in Cape Town, into the Capetonian way of life. Their association, which is run by volunteers, is based on notions of exchange and sharing http://www.capetownaccueil.co.za

BAZ-ART was privileged to share its values, mission and vision with its new comers. We did so by extending the rich history of Salt River while guiding them through the IPAF murals, followed by a deliciously prepared, traditional Cape Malay inspired meal, home cooked by one of the local residents, Nadia Kaylan.

We added a cherry on top of the experience with an Artist workshop with one of BAZ-ART’S featured artist, “Marti” Martin Lund. Teaching them some of the essential spray can technicalities and demonstrating just how much technique it actually requires to master the art of “GRAFFITI”.

We trust that the group had quite a memorable experience and wish that there may be many more to come.

MEET NADIA //

Born in Cape Town, Nadia however had a very culturally diversified childhood as she moved to Zambia for 10 years followed by Botswana for another few years until she returned to the Mother City.

Her professional experience extendeds well over the NPO sector as she has spent an extensive amount of years in associations fighting for youth development, education and health.

Nadia, initially never paid much attention to graffiti but, having grown up in a family which encourage arts and creativity with her father as a drama teacher- it was easy for her to appreciate all sorts of art. She has definitely grown a keen interest and seeks to explore the bounds of what more can be done with the power of strong messaging through street art.

Nadia’s first encounter with IPAF was through the Salt River Residents Association, on which she serves as an active member. She was immediately intrigued by the mission of BAZ-ART- which is to create a platform to empower street artist and found herself more and more involved. BAZ-ART extended the opportunity to have her trained and qualified as a registered Western Cape tour guide. She now operates as a local tour guide for their street art tours.

Her love for preparing the most amazing meals, landed her the opportunity to prepare traditional Cape Malay inspired meals for the BAZ-ART street art tours. She absolutes loves having tourist dine with her as part of their Salt River street art experience.

If you too, would love the complete local street art experience, dining with Nadia, book

MEET ANTHEA //

Anthea grew up in Woodstock, while it was still quite a poor area during the apartheid era. She attended school there and watched the area go through many developmental changes. She decided to explore the world and moved and travelled overseas.

She had always had a love for art and design and ran a sign company doing sign design, construction, and installation.

Her passion for art remained and spurred involvement with art galleries, organizing art exhibitions and doing advertising. In February 2017, the International Public Art Festival was held in Saltriver. She was immediately intrigued by the event as she had a long standing love for graffiti art and had been in contact with many local graffiti artists in her community. Her desire to get involved was fuelled by witnessing how the festival improved her area and had the community involved in the event.

Baz-art then gave her the opportunity to work as a street art tour guide and sent her for a tourism qualification. She has worked in the tourism industry before and she really enjoys the art tours and the people that she meets during the tours.
