[GENERAL SIBIYA RESIGNS FROM SAPS]

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya is no longer an employee of the Service with effect from Monday, 12 October 2026.

According to the statement released by the police this afternoon, the disciplinary hearing against Lieutenant General Sibiya sat this morning, during which his legal representative tendered his resignation immediately after the disciplinary proceedings had commenced.

As the former senior officer had an ongoing disciplinary case against him at the time of his resignation, his departure from the Service is therefore regarded as a dishonourable discharge.

The SAPS had confirmed that Lieutenant General Sibiya’s employment with the Service has been terminated with immediate effect.

[NO MURDER CHARGES YET IN TSONTSO MURDER CASE]

The Police has confirmed the arrest of a suspect allegedly found in possession of an item belonging to murdered runner Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court today, Monday, 12 October 2026, and may face a charge of possession of stolen property.

Police emphasise that no murder charge has been brought against the suspect at this stage.

[ALLEGED PASTOR WANTED FOR MURDER OF FOUR-MONTH-OLD BABY AND R**E OF HER MOTHER ARRESTED]

The 36-year-old alleged pastor who was wanted in connection with the murder of a four-month-old baby and the alleged r**e of her 43-year-old mother has been arrested.

According to the Police, the suspect was arrested on Saturday, 10 October 2026, at Diepsloot following an intensive investigation involving detectives and Crime Intelligence. He was found hiding in a backroom in Diepsloot informal settlement, with injuries.

The arrest brings the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the incident to three, including the suspect’s two wives, who appeared before the Atteridgeville Magistrates' Court on Friday, 09 October 2026.

The suspect is expected to appear before court on Monday, 12 October 2026.

[EFF MP NALEDI CHIRWA TO APPEAR BEFORE COURT FOR ALLEGED ASSAULT OF A POLICE OFFICER]

EFF Member of Parliament Naledi Chirwa is expected to appear before the Hatfield Magistrate’s Court in Pretoria on Monday, 12 October 2026, following an alleged assualt of a police officer at Brooklyn Police Station.

It is alleged the incident occurred on Thursday night when Chirwa requested that officers commission an affidavit she had already signed. Police said she became upset after being informed that affidavits must be signed in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths.

A confrontation allegedly followed, during which Chirwa is accused of assaulting an officer. She was arrested and released on a warning later that night.

Chirwa has also taken to her social media pages to dispute the police's version of events, claiming she was denied services and mistreated at the station. "I am well and promise to be better and ready to hit the streets soon enough. I’ve been to the emergency room and got all injuries documented after an undesirable incident at Brooklyn Police Station on Thursday late afternoon and evening. And after two attempts over two days trying to open a case of assault against a police officer, I finally was granted my right to report a case against Colonel Dintwe today, who assaulted me for demanding services and attempting to record a video of him refusing and turning me back. An all too familiar experience for many South Africans. It is also very telling that the very same service I was being denied of at 17:00 at Brooklyn Police Station, I received on the same day close to midnight at the same police station. A clear demonstration that I was merely being frustrated. "After being informed of who I was when I was unduly detained, the perpetrator panicked, released me and wanted to have a “conversation” to which I refused and opted for things to unfold in accordance to the law. He then decided to lay a case against me, detain me again and involve the media in attempt to protect himself and control the narrative for his undue and violent actions against me" Said Chirwa on her page.

She is expected to make her court appearance before the Hatfield Magistrate's court on Monday.

[FIFTEEN PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR DURBAN PROTESTS]

Fifteen people were arrested on Friday night following violent protests which engulfed the city of Durban and surrounding suburbs. This brings the number of people arrested to 19, including the four of those who were arrested on Thursday for attempted murder and discharging a fi***rm in public.

The suspects are facing charges of public violence and malicious damage to property, with the possibility of other charges being added. The Police says two houses were burnt in the Umbilo area and several shops were damaged in and around Durban, whilst a few of those damaged shops were looted.

According to the Police, the majority of the arrested suspects are students while intelligence officers together with detectives are continuing the search of those responsible for the burning of vehicles and buildings.

The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

KZN Police have dispelled rumours and misleading information circulating on social media regarding the MTN8 Cup Final match between Orlando Pirates FC and Mamelodi Sundowns. Officials have confirmed that the match is going ahead as planned and police have put necessary measures to protect spectators, officials and players.
